It’s true that this revolution takes a “ride” on Apple’s iPhone. But beeing honest, if someone did something good, why do not take advantage on it, and if possible try to improve it.

I believe that HTC did this with HTC Touch Diamond and with TouchFlo 3D.

HTC Touch Diamond, priced at Dh3,299, offers a 2.8-inch LCD touch screen and has a new 3D touch interface called TouchFLO 3D.

The interface can be spun by swiping a finger right or left across the display, providing efficient access to the features consumers use most. TouchFLO also enhances finger touch scrolling and browsing of Web pages, documents, messages and contact lists.

“We have as sold 10 million units globally last year, of which 400,000 units was sold in Middle East and Africa. This year we expect to sell 700,000 units in the region and 13 million globally,” he told Gulf News.

The company launched its first touch-screen, HTC Touch, in June last year, a month ahead of the official launch of the iPhone.

He said HTC Diamond has more features and user-friendlier than iPhone and we are confident to become a winner and expects to sell two million HTC diamond handsets this year.

The smartphone, dubbed as iPhone killer, provides animated access to people, messaging, email, photos, music, weather and more.

New experience

“HTC Touch Diamond promises an entirely new mobile internet experience that utilises broadband-like speeds with HSDPA 7.2 Mbps and HSUPA wireless connectivity,” Chen said.

He said HTC’s Android phone in the works that is nearing production phase will hit the market in the fourth quarter of this year of first quarter of next year. The smartphone is allegedly named “Dream.” HTC was also the first company that admitted they are designing an Android phone.

In addition to web browsing, the Touch Diamond includes a customised new, HTC-developed, YouTube application for watching a variety of user generated video content as well as utilising Google Maps for mobile for mapping and traffic data.

“The HTC Touch Diamond will make browsing the web and using web-enabled applications just as practical and easy to use as making calls.”

HTC has delivered the ROM update to keep their flagship touchscreen handset at the top of its game, and at the same time appeased the masses complaining of crippled video performance.

Threaded SMS, “Getting Stated” wizard, improved video performance (finally), more efficient power draw (read: better battery life), and overall faster performance are all pieces of the Windows Mobile Professional 6.1 package. And, seeing as how the update is free, there’s no reason why anyone shouldn’t hop on board the WM6.1-train.

HTC has made their Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM for the HTC TyTn II (Kaiser) available through their e-Club webpage. Unfortunately for AT&T Tilt customers, they’ll have to wait for Big Blue to get with the times and release an update for the AT&T-branded version of the HTC Kaiser.

The Touch Diamond sports a 3D touch interface called “TouchFLO 3D” that promises animated access to people, messaging, email, photos, music, weather, and more. The device comes with a 2.8-inches VGA touch screen, 3.2 mega pixels auto-focus camera, 4GB internal storage, and integrated GPS for turn-by-turn satellite navigation, and operates on Windows Mobile 6.1.

HTC claims the phone weighs around 110g and is about 102 by 51 by 11.33mm in size. It comes loaded with a new customized mobile Web browser that promises easy viewing and effortless navigation of Web sites. Users can zoom and pan Web sites and view content made to fit the display. Turn the device sideways, and the Web page automatically rotates from a portrait to landscape view. The Touch Diamond offers a customized, HTC-developed YouTube application for viewing a variety of user-generated videos as also Google Maps for mapping data.

The HTC Touch Diamond will be available through Airtel for Rs 27,500 at all authorized HTC resellers.

In the beginning the new device will be available only on Taiwan, but there are plans to quickly expand to other markes. HTC estimated the price of the new HTC Touch Diamond will round about $772 with no contracts. This is only an estimative and HTC says the this price will vary from region to region.

You’ll also notice the decent looking set of headphones in that photo above which, in my mind, implies that the dock/cradle will allow you to sync, charge and use headphones while the device Diamond is plugged in! That would be pretty cool. The Touch Diamond will be hitting Europe in a couple of weeks, so we’ll undoubtedly see more and more accessories soon. This one will supposedly cost about $50 US — not too bad. The UK product page says…

The device, which measures 102 mm by 51 mm by 11.33 mm and weighs in at 110 g, is smaller than the iPhone and will be available in North America later this year and earlier in other parts of the world.

HTC isn’t new to the touch screen game. The Touch Diamond is the latest update of HTC’s Touch smartphone line, which has sold more than 3 million units worldwide since last June, HTC chief marketing officer John Wang told Reuters.

But it is the updates to operating on the 3G network that will make it a true competitor for Apple’s iPhone, which has not yet divulged plans for a 3G model.

According to HTC, the device works on WCDMA networks and with a Qualcomm chipset can hit mobile Internet data rates of up to 7.3 Mbps using HSDPA and HSUPA, upgrades to existing third-generation networks that can boost data transmission speeds.

A statement from HTC said the Touch Diamond features a 2.8-inch VGA touch screen (640 pixels by 480 pixels) and a revamped version of HTC’s TouchFLO software that makes images on the screen seem like they’re in 3D. The touch screen enables access to photos, music, messages, push email and other features.

Along with updating the device, which uses Microsoft (NSDQ:MSFT)’s Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system, the Web browser has been enhanced. Built on an Opera Software engine, the browser lets users zoom and pan into Web sites. Similar to the iPhone, a turn of the device can rotate the Web view.

For more features, the device allows video-calling and features a 3.2 megapixel camera. It uses Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g for wireless Internet access and features Bluetooth access as well. For storage, the Touch Diamond features 4 GB internal, 256 MB flash and 192 MB RAM. Along with all of those features, the Touch Diamond offers GPS, up to 4 hours of talk time and up to 300 hours of standby time, or 100 hours of standby with push email activated.

In a statement, HTC President and CEO Peter Chou said the Touch Diamond will make browsing the Web and using Web-enabled applications on a mobile device as practical and easy as making a phone call.
